Josh Dickens

Principal euphonium in the Central Band of the Royal Air Force

Josh studied for 4 years at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama under the tuition of Dr Robert Childs and David Childs. Prior to this, Josh had spent his musical upbringing within the Salvation Army at Staple Hill, where he began playing the euphonium aged 7. At RWCMD, Josh was a featured soloist both within and beyond the college with bands such as Tongwynlais Temperance Band. Whilst studying, Josh also picked up 1st prizes in the Linda Mowat solo brass prize, the Phillip Jones Brass Ensemble award and the June Emerson chamber music prize.

During his time in Cardiff, Josh became a British Army musician in the Royal Welsh band for two years where he toured to Rome, Naples and performed at prestigious events including the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

Following the conclusion of his studies, Josh moved to the Royal Air Force where he immediately took up the position of principal euphonium in the Central Band of the Royal Air Force. Since moving to the position in London, Josh has been part of many high profile events which include HM King Charles’ coronation, the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo and as part of the fanfare team for the historic D-Day 80 celebrations.

Since moving to London, Josh now plays principal euphonium with Amersham Band, recently winning the British Open Senior Cup.

Josh currently performs on a Besson Prestige 2052 and the brand new David Childs BE969 with the Royal Air Force.
